Cluster Sales Executive - Marriott Hotels
If anyone is worried about job prospects without a degree, then look no further than Emma Thompson, who proves that going to University doesn't have to be the only path.
Emma started working at Marriott Hotels whilst she was deciding what to study. She applied for a reception position, but they could see she was bursting with potential and offered her a role as Trainee Supervisor. At just 21 years old she packed her bags and moved from her home town of Birmingham down to the Big Smoke. A promotion to Front Office Supervisor led to another promotion and Emma became Senior Supervisor at London Marriott County Hall.
Emma’s opportunities opened up further as she started to look into event management roles, where a 6 month maternity cover contract at Worsley Park Marriott Hotel and Country Club brought her up to Manchester. Admittedly, a little nervous when she took on her second event’s role as Golf and Sport’s Event Executive (as she had never picked up a golf club before), she quickly became established in the role, having been recognised both internally and externally with career advances and awards within the field.
6 years after moving to Manchester, Emma is still here with us! At the end of 2017, she landed the role of Sales Executive for 6 hotels in the North West and Yorkshire. Emma feels extremely privileged to have grown her career with the largest hotel company in the world, but we know her work-ethic has had a lot to do with it.
As you'd expect from someone who works in hotels, Emma is a huge fan of travelling, with America, Asia and Australia being just a few of the ticks on the travel bucket-list.
And if you ever run out of biscuits - just pop on over to Emma's house for a brew. She always has plenty in supply!
