Nowhere is the ‘invisibility’ of women in tech more stark than at events and conferences; Fed up with seeing yet another all male panel (let’s go ahead and call it a manel), Women Who Keynote was born.
Women Who Keynote, created by Sorority Sister Kirsty Devlin, started life as a simple Google doc being shared between friends throughout the Manchester tech community. Event organisers claimed it was a struggle to find women willing and able to speak at their events but we knew that there were plenty of amazing women out there. By creating a document full of qualified women, Kirsty intended to bring them to the attention of event organisers and encourage greater diversity in their speaker lineups. It was important that women were visible and that their voices were heard.
